  2. You will find a vast array of utilities here, from communications utilities that help you retrieve the latest source code examples from the Internet, to utilities to help you manage all those files already on your hard drive.

  5. Anarchie is a general purpose FTP/Archie client. It queries Archie servers to find programs stored on FTP sites on the Internet, and then allows you to fetch them directly to your Mac.  It will also allow general browsing of FTP sites. $10 shareware.

InterSLIP Remote is a utility for controlling InterSLIP. You still need InterSLIP; InterSLIP Remote is just an addition. To create new configurations, edit them and switch between them you still need InterSLIP Setup. InterSLIP Remote has three features which InterSLIP Control and InterSLIP Setup does not have: with InterSLIP Remote you can measure the time you are connected to the Internet. It can redial (this feature can be turned on or off) if the modem of your provider is busy. It also keeps a detailed log of all your connects/disconnects and connection times. $5 shareware.

  23. Modem Server is an application that allows you to use multiple bbs systems with just one phone line (or more).  Modem Server is also an inexpensive way of adding more nodes to your existing bbs, with out buying a Hurdler card. Modem Server tends to the modem (initalizing it every few minutes), waiting for calls, and then answering calls.  Once connected it can etiher display a menu of sites to ADSP to, or connect directly to a choosen ADSP site, automatically.  Once the bbs releases the ADSP connection, MS can either hang-up the modem or display the menu again. $20 shareware.

NetPresenz is a Macintosh implementation of the WWW, Gopher and FTP server protocols.  It should be compatible with most FTP clients, and all WWW and Gopher clients. Basically it allows your Mac to act as an FTP server so you (and others) can access your files from anywhere around the world. You can run NetPresenz as a foreground application (displaying the log), or as a background only application (use NetPresenz Setup to toggle between the two). $10 shareware.

NNTP Sucker will suck all newsgroups selected by a Groups file from the NNTP server selected.  Every time you run it it will suck only the NEW messages.  It is much like MacSlurp, except it doesn't crash as often, and is automatic.  It also can be quit at ANY time without losing any messages.  NNTP Sucker will also post any new messages it finds.  If it fails it will move them to the "Failed" folder in the spool folder.  You can fix the error and put the file back in the spool folder and NS will try again. $10 shareware.

Alpine is a program that will read in one PICTure and display it to a window. When the cursor is inside that window, another window will tell the mouse coordinates (local).  Ordinarily, of very little use.  However, it is very handy if you need to know the pixel location of objects on a picture;  I wrote this program in conjunction with a function i wrote called PictureWindow().  It reads a PICT resource in, sends it to a window, and waits until the user presses an okay button, as defined by the programmer through another picture.  What to display when the button is pressed is stored as another picture.  Where to display the depressed button...that is the reason it was written. This program should be a godsend to programmers.

Checksum is the ultimate Macintosh application for calculating checksums for a file. This application is especially useful for comparing two (or more) files to determine whether they are identical or not by comparing each file's checksum. A checksum is a unique "signature" for a file. It is useful to verify that a file downloaded is what it should be, and can be used to tell whether files have changed over time. This application has proven very popular for configuration management and quality assurance in large organizations. $10 shareware.

  437. delta xy is a FREE mouse coordinate measurement program.  It allows you to make precise measurements of just about anything on your computer's monitor.  It can also show you the ASCII character and key codes for most of the keys on your keyboard, and the RGB values of any pixel on your monitor. Click on the padlock icon in the upper-right corner of delta xy's window to toggle it open or closed.  When it's open, you can switch to other applications.  When it's closed, delta xy is “locked” in the foreground.  This means you can click anywhere on your screen, to take the necessary measurements, and you'll never switch to another application.  You can also toggle the locked/unlocked mode with the Lock command in the File menu or by pressing command-space.
